Village of SalthamLocated next to the coast, the manorial village of Saltham is a grain and fish producing settlement. The majority of the modest village dwellings lie beside the single dirt lane that descends from the northeast to the southwest, down to the coast. At the end of the lane is a sheltered harbor where the villages' modest fleet of fishing vessels is beached. A commons and mill lie to the north of the village, alongside the small Cork creek. Beyond stands a heavy copse of deciduous trees, the primary source of firewood and timber for the village. South of the lane is Saltham Manor and Lhyanord AbbeyMuch of the outlying land around the village has been tilled for farming, with lots divided by low stone walls and narrow paths. The ground beyond the periphery is mainly low rolling hillside, with fens to the south and the town of Farnth several days ride to the north and east. Save for an old abandoned watchtower to the south, there is little else of obvious interest. The village has seen some hard times of late, what with poor harvests the past few years and a particularly heavy tax lien from the Baron. The wrecked ship appeared to be a godsend, and volunteers quickly made their way across the treacherous waters to the vessel. Unfortunately, ungodly creatures haunted the ship. As the village had little more than a small abbey run by a priest of little merit, they lacked the means to purify the ship. You are told that messengers have been sent to the nearby town of Farnth to ask for help, but it was feared that suitable aid would not arrive for at least two weeks. Now disaster has befallen the village. Many long days you havewalked along this dusty road toward the sea and the village of Saltham. The summer sun has thoroughly dried the surrounding landscape, leaving the rolling hills blanketed in yellow grass and your throats parched with thirst. Fortunately, the ocean draws near, bringing a cool breeze and a welcome freshness to the air.The surrounding lands show many signs of farm work, as low stone walls segregate the sandy ground into modest fields. Some of the plots lie fallow - overgrown with weeds that wait for burning. Other fields grow meager crops of grain, or poor harvests of beans and tubers.Simple stone, daub, and thatch hovels line both sides of the single road that runs down to the harbor. All the hovels are crudely made, as if assembled in haste without thought for style or permanence. A low stone wall encloses each dwelling, and the enclosed ground beside the crude dwellings has been tilled for vegetables. You quickly notice that the village appears to be all but abandoned. Only a few stray dogs wander the deeply rutted lane, and an old, blind invalid shelters beneath a maple tree.Peering about, you spot a large congregation of villagers on a low hill behind a manor house. A solemn ceremony appears to be underway - most likely a funeral as a priest is leading a prayer ritual. The captain tells you he must take his leave, and wanders off towards the Manor House. You are left alone with the new comer. What are you going to do?

I agree with both of you... the sooner we figure this out, the better.  I have to wonder what that gathering over there is about, though.  Perhaps our new companion could be of assistance and tell us about some of the local events that happened recently?

"Is anyone else hungry", "Church stuff is so borring" rummaging through my pouches again and pulling out the piece of hard candy and peeling off the feather that was stuck to it.  I become fascinated at watching the light through the feather,

wanders towards Lokarn and I ask "So whatcha think their doing over there?  Is it a furneral, marriage or just the usual borring church stuff.  You know we had a priest come and try to stay with us and teach us the ways of the good and rightous as he said.  well he stayed in KenderKin for about three weeks before we found him drunk in the back of the church becouse he kept loosing all his books and stuff.  Oh there was something about someone letting loose a pack of chipmunks but I just thought that since he told us his god created all, that the chipmunks would be intrested in what he had to say how was I supposed to know chipmunks found it just as boring. and several of us tried to help him paint the building that he chose to be a church but for some reason I dont know why he didnt like Green and yellow and orange and of course purple all of us pitched in to help and I do believe he was crying tears of joy as he walked up it was after that we found him.  I guess he left the next day must of thought we didnt need him to teach the ways of good and rightousness couse we were so helpfull to him.  Do you think a kender could become a priest?  becouse we love to travel even though we really dont care much for reading or those borring robes you wear.  HEY!!! I know I got some Dye around here some where we can Dye your robes than you could really put on a show talking about creation and all that, what do you think? Oh were you looking for something to eat I have some candy  would you like a piece?" offering the Piece that most recently had the feather on it.

looks around "Wow this place is really a dump"  Spots the Invalid and goes over to see if he wants the candy.

As I walk over there I wonder why everyone keeps checking their pack,Calls back over my shoulder "HEY IF YA"LL ARE MISSING ANYTHING I CAN HELP YOU FIND IT I AM GOOD AT THAT SORT OF THING"

Well, seeing how none of us knows quite what is going on here, mayhap we should investigate those little dwellings, and see why they appear to be assembled with such haste. Mayhap we can get an idea of what is happening here.

Garren:

A couple of children approach the kender and start to giggle. It seems that they are enjoying his time and entertainment. They begin to run around him and grab at one of his brightly colourd pouches. Meanwhile.....

Lokarn:

Your prayers have been answered. As you look up from your battle ax, you see the sign of what might be a pub. It is  to your right, on the other side of the road oppisit of the abby.

Matthias:

As you look around, you see that the road draws towards the sea. You follow that road, looking at each house and building along the way. Of course, the people look odd to you, but they are also looking somewhat sorrowfull. They are trying to continue their daily activities. About a dozen are about not involved with the abby. Then you see ...

Easily the largest building in the village, this old manor house stands two stories in height, with a heavily canted, slate-tiled roof and turrets to either side of the front door. The manor is made from heavy granite blocks that are covered in lichen, and have moss growing in the many cracks. The blocks incrementally decrease in size with height, until timber-reinforced bricks form most of the second story. Heavy growths of vine cover the western and southern ends of the building. All of the manor windows are paned, with the glass mounted in reinforced frames designed to withstand the heavy winter storms. On the roof are a number of old brick chimneys, a few in need of some minor repairs. At the north end of the L-shaped Manor is a small, wood stable with doors to the five stalls. An orchard of fruit trees, possibly bearing Peach, Apple, and Pear occupies the grounds around the manor. A dirt lane runs in a circle before the main entrance, enclosing a small but elegant garden inside a low stone wall.

Lethri:

You can see the entire villiage and all that surrounds it. ( see the map for information) nothing seems to be too unusual to you, though  you do sence some magical presence in the area. Whether it is coming from a person item or just the general area, you are unable to tell. You also see a cluster of particularly pitiful hovels to the southwest of the Manor. Some people are wandering around, though it is hard to tell who is who. You do however, see that two people are arguing in the backway. Shortly beyand the town to the west is the sea.

To all:

The chanting seems to be getting louder from the abby. Those that were left outside of the abby grounds and wandering around the town seem to be heading back into their homes and buisnesses.

As your attention is drawn to the abby, a rock hits Katterina in the arm.

A Rumble... A loud BANG...

There seemed to have been an explosion coming from one of the small houses in the west........

And another rock seemed to hit in the middle of the standing party ( no one has gotten hurt) then a few more at random...

Lokarn gets his ale

The kender is holding something shiny and almost luminesent

The new comer looks a bit uneasy.

and a stranger comes up to the half drow and says...

" I see you have brought the cart with you and intact. I must appoligise dear sir, but that was for me. Is the driver safe? Ah well, no matter. please.... bring those crates over to my house near that abby... Oh, and whom do i give payment for the trouble?"

*I see the kender talking to the man and rush over to where they are standing. I turn first to Garren with a smile*

Thank you, Garren, for the lovely introductions. Now, those children over there? I think that if they had a nice story to listen to, maybe they'll leave pockets alone for a while. Seeing as you have the most interesting stories, you would be perfect for the job!

*Whispers*    If you would do that for them, I could possibly take you flying later...

*Turns and takes the man a few steps away from Garren.*

I am called Lethri. You can give the money to whomever you wish, but I have a few questions for you, if you wouldn't mind, sir?

First, what exactly is going on in this town?

Why are rocks being thrown everywhere?

And why were we transporting corpses?

*I cross my arms and wait for my answers.*

Turns around while on his way to the explotion site having heard the druid with his keen ears, and noticing her walking about nervously.

"Stop your paceing druid. I'll take the Child and investagate, although im not sure how he has much training in the ways of a Ranger being so...... young. I'm suprised he even has training in how to use those weapons of his."
