Well I did finally get on and my impression of the game is mixed. Character creating is OK, but far from great. The color sliders for clothing and eye colors and such is a pain, EQ2's color wheel would have been a better thing to copy. And although their is lots of customizing when it comes to sizes and shapes their is little that I saw otherwise (I picked the wolf race and they only have 4 different faces to choose, I know this is just being picky, but I like variety). Graphics are average. My system has the game running with most of the sliders and tabs on, plus x2AA, and im getting around 30-50fps so im not complaining there. And the environment is certainly picturesque and gives a sense of being in a huge open world. My problem is although the environment looks good, the characters have really low res texturing when compared to EQ2. Its takes away from the reality of the place when the detail in the characters is so much lower than the environment. Problems. So far I've gotten disconnected from the server twice (and its only been an hour). Had creatures disappear when i attacked them. And an odd graphic glitch when i tried to turn the spectral shadows to max (the screen would go black and white for 3/4 of the screen, and all the trees would appear upside down). Otherwise its been fun, just seems like the game could have used a bit more polish

For one I can say from experience for launch this one has gone better than most and god knows I've hung in through several pretty bad ones. No MMO out there is perfect at launch, for that matter no MMO out there is ever perfect or complete, that's just fact but it's always being improved upon, unlike a released single player game. I can honestly say there's not an MMO currently live that doesnt have some kind of weird glitches throughout.

As for character textures...they are better than EQ2's, I've played it for years and can attest to this. Not all of the features for customization are even implimented yet, I guess they figured fixing glitches needed the attention first. The detail meshes rather well with the world around them in my opinion but that's a personal opinion, we all have them.

Either way, keep in mind you're coming into a game that is just launching, expect bugs and glitches, you have the power to help correct them by merely using the /bug feature that's in game.

YAY! You made it in!! I will add your toons to my flist and try to catch you in game. Remember you can add people to your friends list with out them being on. So you/we can meet up eventualy. I cannot wait to see you in game.

I have to agree. I know that the character customization is not yet fully implemented. There are so many things that we had a chance to see in the beta (including them changing our toons several times through out- adding and taking away different features, hairs faces and so on). They do plan on adding those and more in eventualy. BUt I have to agree with the fixing the glitches first.

The sliders are a pain in the butt at first, but in time you get used to them. Only thing I kind of wish is that they added in some arrows on either side to "click" through if we got close to the colours we wanted. But over all, I realy realy liek them. They open up so much more in areas of options of the colours. Just takes a bit to get used to. Perhaps they could just reduced the sensitivity? That might work also.

For a launch, this is one of the better ones as well that I have seen. One of the things I like most of all is how they are continualy working on things. They have not rested yet, even though launch is here and gone. I expect them to be working non stop for about the next month.

For the glitches.. not sure about the disconnects, unless it was a reset (or isp related, dont know, i was not on at all yesterday.. our internet was down). Though I do know of the Spectral Shadows glitch. Its odd though, because most people get that when they turn them up all the way, not down. Hehe.. leave it you us oldies to find the odd ones eh? Sigil is also aware of this, and are about as confused as anything as to why this happens to some. I, and a few others think its graphic card related. Though they have been able to reproduce it, it has not been continuous on all video cards. ATI cards are most effected by this and some older NVidia cards.

As far as invisible mobs.. i have not been attacked by any, nor heard of them. However there is a problem of them "falling" through inclines and steps in the middle of combat. The best thing for this is to back up. They will reapear. This is another aspect Sigil IS working on right now. When this happens, send in a big report with the monster you were fighting and the loc. Type in /loc so you can get the exact location. Give them a briefe description, and submit it. That is the best way for them to narrow down where, when and how its happening so they can get it fixed in ALL the areas.

You are getting some great fps. I wish i had that high myself. I am happy with 17-25 on average. Some areas are better then others. One thing some do not realise is that since the game had to be releaced early, they are still running a few things in the background to try to finish up the bugs that are still present.

For the polish.. that is in the works.. And I can promis it shall continue as well. I know that they will be working on this thing for years to come. From content patches (not the regular fix patches) to expansions about once a year. And with each one, things can only get better. I am most impressed though that they are still so active in the game itself. Occationaly you will see them in game, a GM will broadcast something funny or a hint for an upcoming event. Its been great both prelaunch and post launch. I can only imagin what we have coming ahead of us in the next 6 months.

I hope to see you in game dear. I am still on that odd schedual that I have always been. Only difference is that I dont work now. So let us know when you are typiclay on, or we can set a date. Hope to see you soon!

Peace,
Sarrene'

I thought EQ2 was artistically spectacular but the gameplay kept me from playing beyond the free month.  I found myself on a hamsterwheel of replacing gear and struggling to make a copper.  The real killer was friends being in the same place in a different instance, a very over used mechanic IMO.  I like the direction VG is going with promoting groups and cooperation that fosters friendships.  Without the friends isn't any game really kind of a waste of time?

Only if it's a multiplayer game.

Single player games do still exist.
