First question... Did he actualy unplug the computer, or just hold down the on button?
(If he unplugged the computer at the power supply or wall, that is not a good thing. You can end up causing a surge that can fry your computer. Its not real common, but it can happen. I have seen it. So always hold down the On button on your computer for 5-10 seconds, and it will do a hard shut down.)
Second question... How did you get you get out of the "set up"? Did you let it run all the way through? And was it the boot screen/mem scan, or did it do a file scan on your system befor hand?
And third question... Did it crash, or lock up on him? Two different things, two different causes.
Now.. as far as vanguard goes, the file scan is a good thing incase you have some major problems with the game. Files, just like any program, can become corrupted. Expecaily if it cannot save vital information correctly.
So here is what i want you to do. and despite what chris said, a full file scan can be a good thing at times. Not all the time.. but sometimes.
1) Go to : C:\Program Files\Sony\Vanguard\bin
2) Find: vgclient (Configuration settings)
3) Delete vgclient (It will be the one that looks like a notepad with gears on it
4) Log into vanguard but do NOT hit play. There will be an option list on the bottom...
5) Select Preferences on the bottom left hand side below the Play Button.
6) Choose "Full File Scan" option on the right hand side
7) Let it finish its scan, then try logging all the way into the game.
As far as the grey message window you got when you tried to log back into the game, 99% of the time you do not have to use that. I always choose no. Because that will revert the game back to its original settings. If you want to do a full file scan at any other time just to make sure, follow the steps below. Doing a full file scan is usualy better then selecting "Yes" when you get that grey pop up window.
