Niq and I read on the Herald this evening that they are doing away with the TOA client in about 3 months. Now I am technologically challenged, so can someone translate for me what that means? Does that mean that you will need better than TOA expansion to play the game? Does that mean artifacts will go away?I have spent several evenings researchingarmor and equipment that could potentiallyfit intoa nice template for some of my characters and those templates all include artifacts. I was planning on starting the hunt for scrolls, but I don't want to do so if the artis are being phased out.Can someone who knows what they are talking about fill me in?Many thanks. Rickie

Well, what it means is that you will need the Catacombs engine. They will most likely give away the Catacombs engine (seems like they already do give away the engine, just not the Catacombs content) for free. Nothing will happen to any content already in the game, such as artifacts and Master level abilities.

Hope that helped.

yes i read that too, seems they want to make it a bit harder for people who duel log on one pc, well I duel log on catacombs client anyway,  just a bit laggy. but for the game as intended the only lag problem i have is in Camelot.

Yep, they are not removing that content from the game. Just changing over the clients. (We hope they are not going to make anyone pay for the expansions if they dont ahve them already.. ah well, well see.)

Oh, and dear, Bane is ready for their guild house now, and Crixey is holding your new one. So let James or me know when you are able to change over.

The one reason people still use the toa client is to reduce the 'load' on thier less than optimum PC particularly when participating in the larger raids , in particular the ML raids . Doing this seemed to make the chance of a line death less likely and enabled players to 'keep up' with the main body of the raid .

For myself I have 2 pc's viz 1.8MHx and 1.4Mhz linked together via an ethernet , and therefore if both are active then there is a deteriation in game play as the PC's share the bandwidth . Fortunately It is only on the odd occasion I have had a need to be running DAOC on both pc's or have both PC's active -  I do not have a bot account .

These days with the 'user friendly ? ' changes to DAOC and taking into account  I have established my toons and have a store of usable items , the loss of the TOA client would probably not be significant , however it could prove inconvenient .

For me its no biggie, I haven't used the TOA client since Catacombs came out. I do understand the need for it however, and am fairly sure Mythic will offer Catacombs for free, just like they offered ToA free when they phased out the SI client.
